Transitional Housing Program for Foster Youth in Transition (FYIT)

At Yemaya House Organization, we understand the challenges faced by young adults aging out of the foster care system. Our Transitional Housing Program is designed to provide a stable and supportive environment where foster youth in transition (FYIT) can build a foundation for independent living and long-term success.

Program Overview

Our program offers affordable, safe, and nurturing housing in family-oriented and diverse neighborhoods throughout the city. Each location is carefully selected to ensure access to public transportation, essential services, and opportunities for growth.

Typical Accommodations:

  • Room Share or Communal Living: Participants will live in shared or semi-private accommodations in single or multi-family homes, fostering a sense of community and collaboration.
  • Fully Equipped Residences: Each home includes basic furnishings, a shared kitchen, and common living spaces, designed to create a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere.
  • Supportive Neighborhoods: Homes are situated in safe, family-friendly communities that encourage connection and inclusivity.

Key Features of the Program

  • Life Skills Development: Residents will receive training in essential life skills, including budgeting, meal preparation, and job readiness, empowering them to thrive independently.
  • Access to Support Services: Participants will have access to resources such as counseling, mentorship, and career development to help navigate the challenges of adulthood.
  • Community Building: Our housing model fosters peer support and community engagement, creating a network of encouragement and shared experiences.
  • Close Proximity to Services: Homes are located near public transportation, grocery stores, medical facilities, and educational institutions to ensure easy access to necessary services.

Eligibility

Our program is open to FYIT individuals aged 18-24 who are transitioning out of foster care. Applicants must demonstrate a willingness to actively participate in program activities and work toward their personal and professional goals.
